C.J, of Sweet Harvest Farms, has been an artist longer than she can remember. Painting on anything that “doesn’t move”, including old cupboard doors, chairs and even her fathers old Army boots, made her offerings a bit eclectic. It would be sometime before people put the name “shabby” or “primitive” on this type of work. Photography came next and CJ still offers her original work on Note Cards, Journal, Calendars and displays/staging for your website as well!
After opening her store in Destin, Fl, she decided to offer a little bit of everything from antiques, to handmade primitive dolls. Included in this eclectic mix was Potpourri and Handmade soap. Always being a perfectionist and wanting to give her customers only the best, she found the soap and potpourri not up to her standards. CJ then set off on the quest to find out how to make her own and make it the best! What she found was astonishing! Did you know that many soaps that are sold as “homemade” are actually produced in huge warehouses? They are then shipped in large blocks which others re-melt, mix with scent and color, then blend with synthetic
Glycerin and call them “Glycerin Soaps”. They contain chemicals that are absorbed into your bloodstream and any relief you find from dry itchy skin is due to the Glycerin that was added at the melting point. You see, Glycerin is a natural by-product of the soap making process! Almost all commercial brands, including Glycerin soap manufacturers, siphon off the natural Glycerin and sell it as a by-product! True Homemade soaps don’t need to add Glycerin at a later date-it’s already there! You can also almost “see through” Glycerin soaps while true homemade soaps are dense and heavy. True soaps don’t melt, become slimy, squishy or “gooshy”-yuk!
There are very few true soap makers left that stay true to the old fashion method of soap making used hundreds of years ago. Beginning with Lard and Lye only the highest quality oils are added. These may include Refined Shea Butter, Flaxseed Oil, Olive Oil, Safflower Oil, Jojoba Oil and many others.
Don’t let the word Lye scare you! CJ uses only Food Grade Lye (what Pretzels are made with!) AND during the Sapponification Process (curing and drying process) the Lye is completely broken down leaving you with only soothing , nurturing and moisturizing properties. I can guarantee that once you have used a Sweet Harvest Farms luxurious bar of homemade soap you will notice the difference immediately and your skin will thank you for it!(Because this recipe is exclusive to Sweet Harvest Farms, only a few of the nurturing oils used are listed with each bar.)
CJ also offers medicinal soap as well to include soaps for Acne, Eczema and sensitive skin. Visit our website and see what a difference a little bar of soap can make!
